Irregular Migration: Migrants reception centre in Abidjan to raise awareness in Williamsville

Religious and community leaders, youth and women's associations in the Williamsville area of Adjamé commune have listened carefully to the advice of the Centre for Reception, Information, Orientation and Support of Coastal Migrants of Ivory Coast (CAIOAM-CI).

Indeed on Tuesday, April 10, the space "Téré de Williamsville" hosted an awareness session led by the CAIOAM-CI in order to contribute to the fight against illegal migration and the promotion of regular channels. Specifically, it was a question of sharing and exchanging information on protocols of free movement of persons, on travel documents and permissions for immigrants and above all on the risks of irregular migration.

"Young people who leave and return complain that their parents are putting pressure on them. For parents, a son or daughter who thrives in Europe or the United States is a sort of family pride. Unfortunately, this is done by putting their life at risk. These irregular migrants find themselves imprisoned, exploited as slaves, girls and women raped . Some lose their lives along the way," has warned Ms. Ekra Cynthia, Permanent Secretary of the Centre.
