Nearly 450 migrants were rescued on Monday by the Libyan coastguard in two separate operations while drifting off the West coast, the Libyan navy reported on Tuesday.

After having been alerted, patrols of the Libyan coast guards, backed by a fishing boat, rescued on Monday "324 illegal migrants, including 35 women and 16 children," according to a statement of the Libyan navy.

"They were on board of two inflatable rubber boats whose engines had broken down, " as reported by the navy. Among them were Chadian, Nigerian, Malian, Libyan and Ivorian citizens.
