I first met Taka when he was 17 on a humid June afternoon in Palermo in 2016. "Taka" was his chosen nickname. His real name was Babucarr Bojang and he had survived a horrendous journey, arriving on a dingy in Sicily.

Then, I decided to visit his family in Gambia and inform them that Taka was doing well, after surviving a very dangerous journey. During my visit, Taka wanted me to spread the voice about the real dangers of moving to Europe if you are lured by local traffickers.
